Master blender tips for your own whisky cask

“When making whisky, every drop and every cask has its very own fascination. I want to share this with my customers”,

Hans-Jürgen Filp.

Have you always dreamed of creating your very own whisky? The Singold experience distillery would like to help you and ensure that your dream becomes reality. But what do you need to bear in mind?

1. tightness of the drum

The most important thing is to check the tightness of the drum. To do this, it must be watered, which means that the barrel is filled with water. The drum is only sealed when no water leaks out and there are no more damp spots

2. filling with raw distillate

The raw distillate is distilled between 60 and 65 % vol. alc. The Scotch is usually bottled at 63.5% vol. from. At the Singold distillery, we offer you a choice of five different raw distillates for your barrel.

3. regular inspection

The maturation of the distillate should be checked every few weeks. Check the taste and color. The smaller the barrel, the larger the wood surface and therefore the faster the distillate matures.

4. finishes

If you have the feeling that the distillate is becoming too woody, you could remove it and store it temporarily in glass containers. Meanwhile, fill the barrel with port, sherry, red wine, white wine, beer, craft beer or rum and leave for a few months. The temporarily stored whisky distillate can then be poured back into the empty cask. The entire amount of whisky distillate or just part of it can be used. The advantage of only partial reuse lies in the variety of whiskies that result from multiple finishes.

5. livingcask

As this cask should give pleasure for many years, you can buy one or two liters of new raw distillate or finished whisky when the contents become less and less (through tasting and evaporation) and refill it.

Find out how you can become a whisky blender yourself and come into possession of your first own cask filled with raw distillate on the whisky cask page of the Singold adventure distillery.

Hans Jürgen London Dry Gin Winter Ice Age

Hans Jürgen London Dry Gin – Ice Age Winter Edition

As you have probably already noticed, HansJürgen Gin Heisszeit is going into hibernation and its twin brother Eiszeit will be available from November 1st and will accompany us throughout the winter.

What’s different about the Eiszeit? Now the appearance has adapted to the winter and the contents. Ice age is violet and we immediately had this color in mind when we tasted it. Eiszeit is still fresh on the nose and you notice the lemon, but the juniper is more noticeable here than in our summer version Heisszeit. In the mouth it is complex, somewhat oily, round and soft, but the cubeb pepper and ginger come through very nicely. Fine palates can also taste the cardamom, coriander and angelica. It should not be forgotten that our winter gin with 45% vol. warms the heart in winter. Let’s celebrate the HansJürgen Gin Ice Age together on November 2 from 7 pm. The annual Whisky Salon at the Kongress am Park hosts the Eiszeit Party.

The winter edition Hans Jürgen Gin EISZEIT can be ordered in the Singold web store.

Hans Jürgen London Dry Gin – Heisszeit

The passionate distiller experimented in his own manufactory until the finished recipe for his London Dry Gin was ready. A gin that not only bears its name, but is also very similar to it in other respects: Hans Jürgen impresses with its confident, balanced character and captivating lightness.

And – it moves with the times, or rather the season: the summer version, which is fresh and sparkling with notes of pepper, ginger, lemon and orange, goes into hibernation in the fall.

But Hans Jürgen doesn’t let us down in the cold season: the summer version is then replaced by a cozier, more bitter doppelganger, which warms more than just the heart with a little more %.

“When making whisky, every drop and every cask has its very own fascination. I want to share this with my customers,” explains Hans-Jürgen Filp. In his distillery, he brings the world of whisky to life for fans, enthusiasts and connoisseurs. Visitors can look over the shoulder of the Master Distiller in Wehringen, for example, during a distillery workshop and help out themselves or prepare for the creation of their whisky by tasting the various recipes. During storage, cask owners can also visit the distillery to see their whisky and experience how the taste of their peated single malt, for example, develops as it matures in the former sherry cask.

New SinGold whisky distillery opens in November 2017

Hans-Jürgen Filp fulfilled his dream of his own whisky, named after the Singold river in his Swabian homeland, back in 2012. Since then, he has been distilling single malts and other fine brandies for discerning whisky lovers. In addition, he also offers outstanding Scotch whisky as an independent bottler under the SinGold brand.

The new SinGold whisky distillery in Wehringen near Augsburg opens in November 2017. You can already create and order your own whisky on the website.
